At 29.5°W the satellite will provide the cable restoration service (the average cable outage can last from 7 to 10 days)

In 1997, INTELSAT restored a total of 17 cable systems, and provided the equivalent to 200 units of 36 MHz, which generated revenues of US$ 24 million. Cable owners from the following countries have leased capacity on the INTELSAT 511 satellite in case of cable failure: Brazil, Canada, France, Iceland, Italy, Portugal, Venezuela, South Africa, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.
